Client Monitor – Overlooked Tool That Makes a Huge Difference

By

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A decent-sized field monitor is a tool that many production companies overlook and leave behind when shooting. The camera has a monitor, right?  Why take the time to move and set up an extra piece of equipment that we do not necessarily need, and does not directly improve the quality of video?

An extra screen can be a difference maker for your crew, your client, your overall presentation and the final product.

[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”7093″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]A little extra time can go a long way — the way things are packed, keeping cables neat and tidy, having a decent screen for your client to look at! Everyone on-site wants to see what they can expect. A client will be much more comfortable with the production team once they see a quality image on the screen. They will trust your judgment more. It allows them to better provide their input as well.

Confirm with your client on-site that they are happy with the scene, the shot, and the lighting. It is difficult to do this with a small monitor attached to the camera. It is more than likely awkwardly placed in comparison to a client monitor, which can be moved anywhere and can be set up directly in front of the client. And though on-camera monitors have improved in image quality, it is always better to allow your client to see the image on a decent-sized screen, similar to how it will eventually be presented.

Not only does it allow the client to better provide input and feel more comfortable with the team, the camera-op will feel more comfortable with a second screen to reference. Calibrate your monitor and ensure you are getting as true a picture as possible. Reference it, as well as your camera monitor when checking your lighting and exposure.

Simple professionalism. When our crew shot interviews for the 20th Annual Heart to Heart Breakfast Twenty Akron community leaders came to our studio and saw our setup. It went a long way when they could see a quality image on the screen. They were all impressed by our professionalism and the work we produced because they were able to see it on-site.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
